1. Problem and Solution Statement (PeaceLily)

Hi guys, it’s me Diego again. Now in this thread, I would like to make a diary about one of my startup idea called PeaceLily. So In this diary, we will record a whole process to build one minimum viable product.

Before we build the whole product or a startup, of course, we need to have a hypothesis problem to solve and how technology can help solve the problem. For this part, i would like to focus on climate change and green technology. In my opinion, if i can help to solve world problems, this is the most interesting topic. This is my hypothesis:

Hypothesis

It’s hard to find daily need stuff that eco-friendly enough to use like biodegradable straw, eco-friendly tumbler, and others on the internet to help us reduce using of plastic and support green movement around the world.

Problem and Data Support

  1. Based on the United Nations, climate change is one of the goals that the world needs to reach by reducing 45% carbon emissions by 2030[2]. Climate change will cause average global temperatures to increase beyond 3°C, and will adversely affect every ecosystem. Already, we are seeing how climate change can exacerbate storms and disasters, and threats such as food and water scarcity, which can lead to conflict[2].
  2. To reducing the emissions, there are a few things that Individu, private and public can do which are:
    • In total, public and private sector investment in clean energy needs to reach at least US$1 trillion per year by 2030, and more to build climate resilience.
    • Planting billions of trees across the world is one of the biggest and cheapest ways of taking CO2 out of the atmosphere to tackle the climate crisis, according to scientists, who have made the first calculation of how many more trees could be planted without encroaching on cropland or urban areas [3].
    • As an individual, what we can do based on UN #ActNow campaign which is Refill and Reuse, produce local food, bring own bag and etc
  3. In Indonesia, there are some actionable items that government and business are working with. One of example is reducing plastic that used by the business[5]. However, we thought it’s still not enough if the society not acts the same to reduce the plastic.
  4. To make society doing the same, we need to give simple and affordable access to people to access the learning, stuff or communities that already doing the same. For example, online commerce in Indonesia should sell eco-friendly stuff like non-plastic straw, a simple farming package, wood spoon or others. I checked the e-commerce like Tokopedia, Bukalapak, and Shopee, they actually sell the stuff but the prices and hype are different. In those marketplaces,  a non-plastic straw is more expensive rather than plastic straw and made people think twice to buy it when they see it on one page. Also in that marketplace, actually some buyers are a restaurant or other business that used the marketplace to buy straw for their business needs.
  5. We also realize that we need to educate the users about the urgency, benefits and needed to use eco-friendly product as their daily needs. In general E-Commerce, they cannot provide a highlight space to that specific needs because they sell almost every products.
  6. So by then, we realize, there is no specific online ecosystem to influence or democratize people about this climate change problem and make them believe they can act or do something.

Propose Solution

  1. Build one Minimum Viable Product to initiate this online-offline green ecosystem.
  2. We will try to create the online marketplace C2C or B2C that only focus on selling eco-friendly products and services as our first MVP.
  3. We pick that MVP because we can see the potential of investment which is US 1$ trillion for this sector per year, the problem exists in front of us as a country now and capability of Founders (background experience)
  4. By creating this online marketplace we hope we can give easy access to eco-friendly products so public, private and individual (society) can buy eco-friendly or clean energy alternative products so they can contribute to reducing emission and prevent climate change.

Ok, we finish with the hypothesis problem, for next, we need to build some surveys and validation for these problems. We will create a simple mockup and wireframe after we got some pain points from our users for this problem.
