Question and Answer Product Manager

This post concludes all the best practices for some PM tasks or jobs like road mapping, ideation, analysis, market size, and others from my perspective.

Product Vision

  1. How to crafting a Product Vision?
    I use the Product Vision Board framework by romanpichler (HERE) because it give me clarify about the market and also value proposition of the product itself.

    However, i suggest to do based Christian Strunk article because before you create a vision, you need to know, the company vision, company strategy, and high level product strategy

  2. How to create a Product Vision Statement?
    Based on your product vision board or framework it will be good if you can wrap it up to only 1 statement like the biggest tech company. For examples:

    Google: To provide access to the world’s information with one click.
    Instagram: To capture and share the world’s moments.


    However, i usually used this template from ProductPlan (Here):
    For [our target customer], who [customer’s need], the [product] is a [product category or description] that [unique benefits and selling points].
    Unlike [competitors or current methods], our product [main differentiators].

    Or I recommended again to use Christian Strunk article.
  3. How to simply define the problem so we don’t jump to the solution?
    Our users are _____(users)___
    Their goal is ____(job to be done)____
    Their struggles are ____(pain points)____
    We know this true because ____(data / observation)____
    Solving this will be great for our users because ________
    and also benefit our organization because ________

  4. How to Write OKR format example?
    Objective: Simplify the journey of users working on our platform
    KR: Simplify the Customer Purchasing Journey by implementing/improving XXXX which will reduce the time/<any other metric> from X to Y, by OCT, 2022.


Planning Phase

  1. How planning step when creating a product that will be used as Internal tools for all campaign assets in the apps?
    I learn it from other PM project and its really good approach:

    1. Create the BRD or PRD that covered all the product and business requirements
    2. Talk to the people that facing the problem about how it should work on Intools
    3. Meet each owner (Product Manager) of all campaign assets like in Homepage or other pages about what they needs from us for do the integrations
    4. Create a big meetings after done with the PRD that covered the steps 2 and 3. Also it include the requirement of the tools itself
    5. After all agree with the requirement, create the roadmap and book the slot to do integration with all the campaign asset owner
    6. Work on the development.

  2. How to make a platform product that work on B2B?
    I learn a lot from other PM that work on A/B tools and myself:

    1. Find 1 until 2 client that want to use the solution even though you don’t have any platform UI or features first (just backend integration).
    2. Get a feedback from them while you already creating the platform dashboard. Let says the a/b tools, need a platform or dashboard to maintain the a/b testing for each client
    3. Get the attention from companies or the stakeholder that really need it to get support so when the platform exist, all the existing business as usual move to the tools
    4. Create the deck that structure enough to make a new client easy to understand about the platform, that consist of the why create the platform, how to use, features exist and FAQ.

Trade-off

  1. What do you do if there is an urgent request to turn off/modify a feature but it also require another stakeholder concern?
    1. Directly invite meeting the Stakeholders to tell the condition and try to get their expectations
    2. For example: Feature A need to be modify because the content is not based on user location and miss the expectation. The stakeholder and us will define the test cases and criteria of it.
    – Keyword “bandung” showing the content name with exact bandung
    – Keyword “buah bandung” showing the content name with contain “buah” and “bandung”
    3. After we got the expectations, we need to have a meeting with our engineers to tell the expectations
    4. The engineers will give the PM the mechanism how to do it and also the timeline to fix it. Because it’s urgent, we need to pick the low effort but meet the expectation
    5. After agree, the fixing will do by the engineers and the PM/Stakeholders make sure again if pass the test cases or not.

Meetings

  1. Format of the meetings notes
    Some points need to be gather after the meetings. Here’s what i think important:
    1. Agree on the Scope (for this is depends on the goal of the meetings)
    2. Development or Business Effort
    3. Action Items
    4. Additional Notes
    5. Attendance and date of meeting
